During 1931-1938 she studied in a secondary school, and in 1938 she begin her studies in a university “Vytautas Magnus”. In 1938-1939 she participated in a excavation of prehistoric cemeteries in Kaunas, at the same year where she studied linguistics in the Department of Philology
In 1942 she graduated in University of Vilnius, and she married with Geroge Gimbutas.
During the second world war she left Lithuania.
In 1946 she graduated in University of Tübingen (Alemanya), and in 1950-1956 she worked in University of Harvard.

She revealed a ancient culture in all Europe between 6500 and 3500 a.C. This discoveries said that this civilization was different from images of kings, warriors, and conquering.
Her excavations and interpretations show, a society stretching across Europe from the Danube to the North Sea, where the woman has a important roll like the men.
Gimbutas's theories have been extended and embraced by a number of neopaganGreat Goddess, but also as manifesting a range of female deities: snake goddess, bee goddess, bird goddess, mountain goddess, Mistress of the Animals, etc., which were not necessarily ubiquitous throughout Europe. authors. Gimbutas did identify the diverse and complex Palaeolithic and Neolithic female representations she recognized as depicting a single universal

If her theories are correct, then peace, reverence for the earth and the honouring of life are not only human capabilities, they are the very underpinnings of European civilization itself.
